Futures of tourism

Free sunny shores

Who am I?

I am a 34-year-old woman, rural and feminist.

Why am I interested in tourism?

The only kind of tourism I find interesting is the one that promotes culture, stimulates the local economy and produces decent jobs. The current generalised “sun and sand” model generates precarious jobs, destroys ecosystems and uses highly polluting means of transport.

Dear Mochilo,

Nowadays people “tour” closer to home, not always staying in a megaconstruction hotel and not always traveling by plane or cruise ship…

The inhabitants of the visited areas benefit economically, not only the big hotel chains. Also nobody can build closer than 200 metres from the coast anymore, not even the hotel giants!

I hope you are well.

Kind regards

Wishes and hopes behind the image of the future:

1. “For the future of tourism I hope that…

it pollutes less, improves people’s living conditions and contributes to the conservation of the environment in tourist areas.

2. “If I could wish for anything at all, I would…

like to see transport technology evolve into less environmentally aggressive forms.

3. “If I were a powerful politician, I would…

enforce laws, such as the Coastal Law…
